High Mileage Heroes – Increased mileage doesn’t equal increased problems
Even the most frugal of general consumers are often turned off by a car with seemingly increased mileage. The common thinking is that as a car ages not only does the number of issues increase, but the cost of said issues also increases. Many believe that the magic number is 100,000 miles, anything higher and the doors are about to fall off. However, as time has gone on, manufacturers have increased the levels of build quality in their vehicles, meaning that in most cases cars can be run for much longer than in the past with nary an issue.
In a recent opinion article by Alastair Crooks published on AutoExpress.co.uk he states that: “Unless it constitutes the end of a warranty – 100,000 miles is a typical period for EV batteries to be covered, for example – or the car in question requires a new timing chain or cambelt at this point, then it’s a largely irrelevant milestone in the lifespan of any vehicle”. There is no definitive magic number where a car will typically fall apart. If a car is well maintained and is regularly serviced there is no reason a car cannot reach 200, 300, or even 500,000 miles. The Guiness book of World records currently lists Irving Gordon’s 1966 Volvo P1800S as having the highest mileage ever for a car with a total of 3,250,257 miles (as of 6th February 2024). This extreme example makes the average 100,000 mile ‘high mileage hero’ feel rather feeble.
Once regular maintenance is taken care of including general servicing, tyres and brakes the only thing left is bodywork. Understandably almost every car is likely to pick up the odd bump and scrape here and there, even the luckiest driver in the world will have picked up at least a stone chip during their travels. That’s where Revive! come in, our technicians work from specially adapted vans and use industry leading supplies and equipment to deliver quality repairs at a fraction of the cost of a traditional body shop.
When it comes to car body repairs, bumper scuffs, scratches and scrapes Revive! are the repair specialists of choice for leading car manufacturers and dealerships across the country. A car bumper repair typically takes just a couple of hours and can be done at your home or workplace, so you don’t need to be without your car for long and won’t require the cost of a full bumper replacement. The damaged or cracked bumpers will be sanded, painted and polished using SMART repair techniques to contain the repair to the smallest area possible while retaining the original texture of your bumper and restoring your bumper to its original condition.
