No end in sight for Britain’s Pothole Pandemic

Potholes, potholes, potholes, it’s all we ever seem to talk about. The bane of Britain’s drivers nationwide, nothing can quite ruin your day as much as crashing into one of these caverns on the UKs roads. It seems this blight won’t be going away anytime soon, as according to the RAC its patrols visited over 24,000 pothole related incidents since June 2024, an astounding number especially when you consider the investment the current government have made into UK roads specifically to tackle the pothole pandemic.

Earlier this year Revive! revealed that we are seeing a steady increase in alloy wheel repairs with 22% growth in requests for our alloy wheel repair and diamond cut wheel repair services since 2021. While Revive! can cover the minor damage that occurs from potholes including scratches, scuffs and scrapes, the RAC’s most common pothole related damage was broken suspension, with 4,779 instances recorded over a 12-month period.

A recent survey by Mercedes-Benz Vans Under the Bonnet revealed that UK drivers are slowly developing a massive fear of potholes with 30% of drivers saying they would rather sit in a traffic jam than hit a pothole with a further 24% stating they’d rather receive a parking ticket. Overall motorists have been forced to pay out an estimated £1.7bn on vehicle repairs caused by potholes since last year, up 149% since 2014, with 22% of repairs costing up to £500.

Revive! encourages all road users to inspect their vehicles regularly for any signs of damage, as neglecting this could result in larger bills later on. If your alloy wheels become damaged due to hitting a pothole, not only will this affect the overall cosmetic appearance of your car, but damaged alloy wheels could cause issues in terms of losing traction and control, as well as loss of tyre pressure.
