Will the Pothole plague be over under Labour? – Probably not.

The pothole problem in the UK is extraordinary, there is barely a single road in the UK that isn’t blighted by one of those gruesome gravelly nightmares, determined to not only bash your suspension out of alignment but to take a bite out of your alloys as well. Revive! receive countless stories from customers who have fallen victim to the UKs pothole plague, while Revive! will always be here to repair your scraped and scratched alloys it would always be preferable to not get damage in the first place.

With the recent change in government there was hope that there would be an increase in the funding for pothole maintenance so that we may in some way tackle the problem. Following the recent budget announcement on 30th October, UK Labour Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced an additional £500M to tackle potholes across the country, this brings the total funding for UK road repairs to £1.6B.

However, industry experts estimate this will barely scratch the surface with estimates suggesting over £16B will be required to actually tackle the nation’s ailing road network. The new investment in potholes will come as shallow comfort to many as one in five pothole damaged cars are forced to be written off due to the severity of the collision. Automotive insurer Allianz has revealed that it’s paid out more than £4.6m for 1,266 pothole claims since the start of 2023.

Potholes are one of the biggest issues drivers face during their day to day driving activities, earlier this year Revive! reported a staggering 58 per cent increase in demand for its alloy wheel repair services over the past two years making up 41% of the company’s business. Many customers point the finger at poor road conditions. Alloy wheel damage is very often associated with a sudden jolt from hitting a pothole, causing scraping or chips in the metal.

If your alloy wheels become damaged due to hitting a pothole, not only will this affect the overall cosmetic appearance of your car, but damaged alloy wheels could cause issues in terms of losing traction and control, as well as loss of tyre pressure. Revive! initially found that the UKs biggest hotspot for potholes was Surrey, with an astonishing one in twenty of the UKs potholes being in the county.

At Revive!, we use industry-leading supplies and equipment to provide our customers with a cost-effective solution to alloy wheel refurbishment and we pride ourselves on the high quality of all our work. Our mobile repairers have years of experience in various types of repairs and refurbishment and will draw on their considerable knowledge to return your alloy wheels to their pre-damaged condition.
