Coventry Blaze took an exciting double victory over the weekend
Revive! sponsored Coventry Blaze have taken an exciting double victory over the weekend up against the fearsome Manchester Storm and the icy cool of the Guildford Flames.
Manchester Storm vs Coventry Blaze
Taking place at the Storms Altrincham stadium on Friday Night the Blaze were in hot competition from the off, with Brandon Alderson hammering home the first goal of the night past the Storm’s keeper. Not to be left behind though Manchester fought back with an equaliser with just five minutes remaining of the opening period. However the Blaze’s Chase Gresock found the back of the net in the final minute to take the Blaze back into the lead for the start of the second period.
The second period saw the Storm draw level again just after the halfway point when Jake Durflinger snuck the puck past the Blaze’s Mat Robson.
The final period saw Manchester finally take the lead, with a second goal by Durflinger. Not to be outshined however just 81 seconds later, the Blaze’s Jackson Cressey powered another goal in with just 10 minutes remaining.
Despite frantic attacks from both sides neither were able to gain an advantage in the final minutes of the game, or in the 5 minutes of extra time leading to a 3-3 draw ahead of the shootout. Both teams traded goals for the first four rounds, but Robson made a stunning save in the fifth stopping the Storm in their tracks. This led to Kim Tallberg powering the final goal home to take victory for the Coventry Blaze 4-3.
Coventry Blaze vs Guildford Flames
For the second game of the weekend Coventry Blaze returned home to the Skydome Arena where they faced off against the Guildford Flames. Despite fierce competition from both sides the first period remained goalless with the Blaze’s Mat Robson becoming a wall in front of the net preventing anything that came near from passing him.
At the 25 minute mark the first goal passed the line from the stick of Grayson Constable to aid the Blaze. This lead was short-lived however as the flames pressed their advantages during a two on one situation with Jack Jacome breaking the Blaze’s defence.
It all came down to the final period, with both goal tenders proving impenetrable until with just 1:40 remaining Nick Seitz slid the puck into the Flames net to take the Blaze to victory 2-1.
