Coventry Blaze sneaks a victory away from the Belfast Giants to continue winning streak
The Coventry Blaze continued their Elite League victory streak with a win over the Belfast Giants this weekend. This hotly anticipated contest took place at the Giants home ground, the SSE Arena which was a packed house for the battle of the two hockey titans.
It was certainly a close contest between the two sides with the Belfast Giants sneaking ahead in just 1:38 with a goal from Pierre-Olivier Morin sneaked past Mat Robson. Pressing their advantage former Blaze player Ben Lake took the Giants to a 2-goal lead at 8:20. Thankfully the Blaze started to withstand the pressure from the Giants and began their comeback with a goal from Chase Gresock at 16:25.
The Giants continued to pressure the Coventry team into the second period with Scott Conway piercing the Blaze defence with another goal at 22:12. Undeterred by the setback, Blaze responded well and grabbed their second goal at 30:48 when Nick Seitz fed Alessio Luciani who finished with precision, leading to a score of 3-2. As the second period started to close the Revive! backed side finally scored their equaliser with Zack Heintz scoring the third goal for the Blaze at 36:21.
The Blaze now pressed the Giants further, finally taking the lead at the start of the final period with a goal from Brandon Alderson at 47:42. Still determined for victory on home soil the giants struck back with a Scott Conway goal at 56:04. With the game quickly coming to a close it seemed the contest would end in a tie, until a late goal from the Blaze’s Nick Seitz making it 4-5 with just 1:24 remaining. Almost certainly finished now, the Blaze hammered their point home with a closing goal in the final seconds of the game from Luciani, sealing the Blaze victory 4-6.
