Back in Action – Coventry Blaze kick-off the season in September
Revive! sponsored Coventry Blaze were back in action in September to kick off their 25/26 season in style. Competing against the best the UK has to offer, the Blaze’s Ice Hockey season will certainly be one to watch as they attempt to better their last season result of 5th in the Elite League standings.
Manchester Storm vs Coventry Blaze – 6-4 (Lost)
Coventry Blaze kicked off their season with an unfortunate loss to the Manchester Storm on 13th September. Despite battling hard throughout the contest with goals from Alessio Luciani, William Boysen, Colton Saucerman and Elijiah Barriga, the Blaze fell short of the mark, starting the season on a 6-4 loss.
Coventry Blaze vs Manchester Storm – 5-4 (Win)
Keen to get avenge the previous day’s loss the Blaze set out with a mission on 14th September. Despite their enthusiasm for victory though, the Manchester Storm wouldn’t go down without a fight leading to a nail-biting contest between the two that went down to the wire. Goals from Matthew Gleason (2), Colton Saucerman and Alessio Luciani (2) sealed the victory for the Blaze.
Coventry Blaze vs Guildford Flames – 5-3 (Win)
Both teams were fiercely competitive going into this contest with the Flames eager to bounce back from the previous days 7-1 defeat to the Cardiff Devils, and the Blaze determined to continue their success from the previous week, leading to an incredibly combative contest. Goals came from Alessio Luciani (2), Grant Mismash, Mike Pelech and Matthew Gleason secured the victory for Coventry and sent the Flames to continue their losing streak.
Coventry Blaze vs Cardiff Devils – 2-1 (Win)
It was an impressive contest between the Blaze and the Devils on 21st September with little to choose between the two sides throughout the game. Man of the match went to netminder Matt Robson, who deflected 45 shots in the game, an impressive feat. Goals from Mike Pelech and Colton Saucerman brought home the victory for Coventry.
Sheffield Steelers vs Coventry Blaze– 0-2 (Win)
Coventry Blaze stood their ground against the Sheffield Steelers, as the goals of Archie Hazeldine, and team captain Kim Tallberg stood as the sole scoring for the contest. This victory putting the Blaze as the second place team in Group A of the Challenge Cup.
Coventry Blaze vs Nottingham Panthers – 0-3 (Lost)
Sadly it all came tumbling down this weekend for the Blaze as they suffered a 3-nil shutout at the hands of the Nottingham Panthers. Despite many attempts at goal, the team couldn’t sneak one by leading to only their second defeat in their Challenge Cup campaign this season.
