Dealer Preparation Drives Significant Used Car Value Uplift, New Study Finds

  • Leading Smart Repair Brand highlights the price increases possible through properly preparing a vehicle for sale
  • Mini Coopers could be increased in value by nearly £5,000, with Ford Fiestas capable of returning an additional 18.99% through proper vehicle preparation
  • 2026 is the second year Revive! have carried out this research following the release of Q2 Used car sales by the SMMT

Revive! Auto Innovations the UK’s leading provider of mobile cosmetic repairs has released new research that shows small city cars are presenting the biggest opportunities for dealers to profit, simply by properly preparing the vehicles before they go on sale.

In the 2026 update to their annual analysis of the UK used car market the team found that smaller cars like the Mini Cooper and Ford Fiesta presented the highest percentage sale price increases on properly prepped cars vs unprepped models. Larger models like the Ford Focus, Audi A3 and Vauxhall Astra presented far less opportunities to increase their value

  • Leading the list is the Mini Cooper, where a 2025 model in unprepped condition had an average price of £20,907, however a professionally prepared model could fetch nearly £5,000 more at £25,853, a 23.66% increase. This was the highest value increase on the list at £4,946 but also presented an increase on 2025 figures where Revive! found only a £3,892 (17.56%) price increase.
  • The data also presented that the Ford Fiesta could see price increases of 18.99% between vehicles that had not had cosmetic repairs carried out prior to sale and pristine models of the same quality, spec, colour and with similar mileage. Unprepped models available had an average price tag of £11,305 for a 2023 ST-Line-X in Black. Whereas a fully prepped model could fetch values of £13,452 on average.

““In recent months Dealers have been seeing an increasing demand for 3–4-year-old vehicles,” commented Mark Llewellyn, CEO of Revive! UK. “When dealing with older vehicles they can often not present as well as newer models without increased preparation.

Dealers are still leaving money on the table, when sales managers are choosing not to or are incorrectly preparing their cars for sale. The possible price increases available from implementing just minor preparation techniques are surprising. I’m not sure many dealers could turn down an additional £5k on a £20,000 car”.

  • Other significant increases revealed through Revive!’s research saw the average price of a 2021 BMW 320D M-Sport rise 18.67% from £20,073 to £23,822. Whereas a 2021 BMW 118I M-Sport had the possibility to bring in an additional £2,999 if properly prepared, increasing the average price to £21,237. A 2023 Audi A3 Black Edition could also achieve £2,411 more if it were to be properly prepared for sale, hitting average prices of £24,856. This however was a significant decrease in the price increase of 2025 where Revive! found the A3 could see increases of £6,762.

While it may seem common sense that a car with fewer scratches and scrapes can sell for an increased price, some dealers are still struggling to realise that through proper preparation they will not only maximize their revenue opportunities but reduce call backs for minor issues customers are looking to fix.
