Get Moving for Kebsi Heroes conquer Helvellyn

At the time of writing Revive! are in the depths of their annual Get Moving for Kebsi fundraising campaign for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. It’s the company’s push to get its employees moving and raising money in the memory of Kevin ‘Kebsi’ Gartland.

Now in its sixth year, the team really pushes themselves to their limits with a whole host of challenges ranging from covering 10,000 steps per day, to going to the gym regularly with some even running 5K for more than half the month. This year a small group of intrepid eager fundraisers decided to up the stakes, by climbing the fearsome Mount Helvellyn in the Lake District.

The third-highest peak in England, Helvellyn stands at over 950m above sea level and saw eight of Revive!’s finest make the three-and-a-half-hour drive from head office in Rugby up to the Lakes to take on the challenge all in memory of Kebsi.

Revive!’s efforts to support Kebsi began in 2019 when a small group raised just over £1,000. After Kebsi sadly passed away in 2020, the Revive! team pledged to continue raising money every September for the MNDA in North and West Cumbria, where Kebsi lived his entire life.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) provides support and information for those affected by MND, a fatal neurodegenerative disease which affects the cells responsible for voluntary movement. You may know former professional rugby players Rob Burrow and Doddy Weir, who were both notably diagnosed and made major strides in raising awareness and funding for MND before they died from the condition. Six people are diagnosed with MND every day, and six people die fighting MND every day. There is currently no known cure.

The eight staff who conquered Helvellyn in just under six hours were:

Jack Bayliss

Joe Nicholson

Andreea Pinzariu

Richard Graves

Zoe Eadon

Sam Brown

Hannah Biscombe

Ben Gilbert
